Today's Topics: The Military and Baseball in New England
Today is a wonderful day. I’m extremely hungry however and that is giving me a headache. I just went to the vending machine to get a cappuccino (sp?) to stave off the pangs. I think it’s helping. Only an hour or so before lunch anyhow, so I think I can make it.

Now for blah-blah about the military:

Today is another pensive day in my life – awaiting the response from the military on whether or not they feel I am physically adept enough to be one of the few…the proud….the employed. The funny thing is that I’m honestly not even sure what I’m going to go in as. I’ve considered Human Resources Information Systems Administration but I’m not sure. I would like a techy (computer) job but I failed the color-blind test for the billionth time again so that will probably make that an impossibility. The one thing I do know is that I want a desk job that’s non-deployable. I was airborne infantry the first time I went in when I was 18 – I’m older now and married and have nothing to prove, etc. so just the security of employment and medical is really what I’m after. Plus I like the sense of community and comradery in the military, even between families. I’ve considered journalism as I have a keen interest in that, however that could be extremely deployable. They have another position though, called a Broadcast Journalist which is like Radio and TV, etc. for the military. So I thought about that until I heard of “Good morning Baghdad.” So, I’m going to take my Recruiter’s advice – he said that my scores are good enough that they should offer me a lot of options so he said to just wait and see what they offer me – there may be positions I haven’t heard of or that are not posted on the www.goarmy.com website. I’m hoping to get a nice bonus for going in and also be able to retain my rank from when I was in the first time. Apparently they are giving bonuses to prior-service military, so that shouldn’t be too much to ask.

I think I’m doing pretty good on the fitness area. The ironic thing to me is that I’m in better shape now than I was when I went into the military the first time. The hardest thing for me is the running. I hate running. Right now I’m only running the 2-mile in 17 minutes. I need to shave some time off of that. But I’m only running about once or twice a week. I know I need to run more if I’m going to improve that.

Now a discussion about the Baseball in New England!

Yankees/Red Sox:
Ok, if you’ve never been to the New England states then you don’t understand what it means to be involved in Baseball. I mean, these people are insane. J I haven’t followed really any sports for many years….ok, since I lived at home with my folks. Since I’ve moved to Connecticut I have found that you cannot possibly live here without being forced to choose sides between the Yankees or the Red Sox. It’s quite the rivalry – tantamount to Microsoft & Linux for you techies: they even call the Yankees the “Evil Empire” (just like MS is labeled often). Unexplicably, I find myself a Red Sox fan. No particular reason that I can think of, they just seem more likeable. A lot of the players on the Yankees team look cocky and arrogant and I have an aversion to arrogance. Plus, I’ve always been one to root for the underdog and since the Red Sox haven’t wont a World Series since 1918, I really want them to win. I mean at least once.
